Cream:
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
Add:
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. Soda
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
2 tsp. Cinnamon
1-1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Mix and blend in slowly:
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Add:
2 cups chopped apples
1-2 cups chopped walnuts
Spread in greased 9 x 13 pan.
Sprinkle top with:
4 T brown sugar
1/2 cup walnuts
Directions: Bake at 325-350 for 50 to 60 minutes. Don't overcook, should be moist. I core and chop two large granny smith apples with skin on. Also use nuts generously since we raise them. I just sprinkle brown sugar and nuts across the top, and don’t measure.
